“Select Your Seeds Before You Sow!”
“Cause and effect” is among the seven fundamental laws of nature. By my little understanding “You reap what you sow” is a cause and effect law of nature.
Paul speaks to us through Galatians, “Do not be deceived, God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.” In effect Paul is saying that God is the originator of an effect being the outcome of a cause. “You reap what you saw” is time-tested and true!
We cannot mock God who has established this law of nature, thinking that we can wiggle our way past this law. Reaping what you sow is not negativity. If you sow good seeds you will surely have a rich harvest. If you sow bad seeds then you’ll have a poor harvest. Besides, you cannot plant corn and harvest beans.
The law of nature is the foundation of morality. What is good is good everywhere and what is bad is bad everywhere. If you sow “to please the sinful nature, from that nature you will reap destruction, the one who sows to please the Spirit, from that Spirit will reap eternal life.”
Paul says “the acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery, idolatory and witchcraft, hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dimensions, factions and envy, drunkenness, orgies…But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”(Gal.5:19-21).
Those who sow in the Spirit should “not become weary in doing good” since at the proper time they will reap a harvest if they do not give up. “Therefore, as we have opprtunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of the believers”(Gal.6:7-10).
“The family of the believers” is not necessarily congregational members or Christians in general. Paul told Timothy, “If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever”(I Tim.5:8).
Therefore my friend, whatever we may have been in the past, now that we are under grace, let us be mindful of what we sow. For we shall reap just what we sowed.
Sow goodness by being good and doing good to all whenever you have the opportunity.
Prayer: Holy Spirit help me to sow in the Spirit; to be good and never be weary of doing good to all people whenever I can. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
