“Seek The LORD And Live…Hate Evil, Love Good!”

“Seek The LORD And Live…Hate Evil, Love Good!”(Am.5:4-7&10-15).
Centres of idolatory are usually very compelling in the way they market themselves. The things that they promise are things that prey on the soft spots of human hearts. Idolatory centres promise more than they offer.
Even though the majority throng such centres, they unwittingly abandon the substance as they run after its shadow.
As it was with the house of Israel, so it is with our generation in Africa. We seek Bethel, we go to Gilgal and journey to Beersheba, thinking that these are places where our restless souls would find safety, security, peace and tranquillity. But it is a fruitless venture because those places are themselves insecure and doomed for destruction.
Instead of going to those places, the LORD’s voice resounds: “Seek me and live…Seek the Lord and live…You who turn justice into bitterness and cast righteousness to the ground…You hate the one who reproves in court and despise him who tells the truth. You trample on the poor…You oppress the righteous and take bribes and you deprive the poor of justice in the courts. Therefore the prudent man keeps quiet in such times, for the times are evil. Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then LORD Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is. Hate evil, love good; maintain justice in the courts. Perhaps the LORD Almighty will have mercy on the remnants…”
Bottom line: The LORD Almighty says “Seek me and live.” You do not have to go far before you find him. He is in the Other person. To find him and live, you should “Seek good, and not evil,” and “Hate evil, love good!”
But since it is a narrow path, perhaps only a few will go through it. These are the ones of whom it is said, “Perhaps the LORD Almighty will have mercy on the remnants…” Therefore let justice flow from you like a river and righteousness like a never-failing stream(Am.5:24) ; so that you will be among the remnants of whom the LORD’s mercy is shown!
Prayer: Holy Spirit help me to seek the LORD daily by seeking good and not evil, and by hating evil and loving good. Amen!
