“Saved By Grace Through Christ Jesus To Do Good Works!”(Eph.2:1-10).
Dhar Mann always ends his video skits stating:“We’re not just telling stories, we’re changing lives…” One such story is that of a rich man who looked low on an upstart old acquaintance of his wife. The rich man snubbed and mocked the upstart guy until his wife reminded him how before they got married he had nothing; except his big dreams.
An African queen was so hard on her son who fell in love with a commoner girl and said no matter what he was going to marry the girl. The mother insisted that as a prince he could not stoop so low to marry a commoner. It was at this point that the king who was silently following his wife’s drama reminded her that she herself had been a commoner girl when he fell in love with her.
It is funny how some of us quickly forget our past and begin to undermine those who are where we once were. This is very common in spiritual matters. Those who once lived loose moral standards before encountering Christ should not despise those who are still in that state. Rather our past experiences should cause us to be sympathetic and to see how we can raise them to our level. We should learn to eschew spiritual arrogance.
Paul reminds us who have found grace in Christ that we were once dead in our transgressions and sins. We followed the ways of the world.“All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions – it is by grace that you have been saved…”
Everything that we have become was in the plan of God and happened in its own beautiful time. All this for the purpose of our salvation. Nothing has happened to us through our human effort.“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
The best and most serious of this good works we have been saved to do is to bring the grace of God to those who are where we were before grace found us. We should be angels (messengers) of good news to the lost!
Sunday prayer: Heavenly Father, I have been saved by grace; help me to do the goods works you have prepared for me to do. Amen!
