“Saved By Grace For Good Works!”(Eph.2:4-10).
As we round up the week, we remind ourselves that the week’s emphasis has been on grace over works. Good works is important and necessary for the life of faith, but good works is what we should of necessity give back in return for what God’s love, kindness, compassion, grace and mercy has done through the sacrificial death of Christ our Lord.
To close the week Paul tells us, “But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions – it is by grace you have been saved…”
We are now seated with the risen Christ in the heavenly realms.
“. It is by grace that you have been saved, through faith – and this, not from yourselves; it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
A similar thought is expressed in Titus: “But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy…” When those who trust in God know these things, they should be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good(Tit.3:4-8).
After an examination if the teacher realises that the majority of students have failed, the prudent next step is to award a certain score to all the students. Besides, it is suggested not to score zero to any question, if something has been written there. These are acts of grace and that is how God is dealing with us. But as we have noted from the above passages, we are not saved by good works, but good works is what we must do as a response for being saved.
Therefore, in the same way that we have received God’s immeasurable love, kindness, grace and mercy, let us in the same measure do good works in the spirit of Christ our Savior.
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit, prod me always to appreciate God’s love, grace and mercy and to do good works in return. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
Prayer point: Pray for an intensified spirit of love and good works in your community.
