“Salvation Has Come To Your House!”(Lk.19:1-10).
It’s another day of grace and we cannot take it for granted. Thank you LORD. Speaking through the prophet Jeremiah, the LORD says, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you…”(29:13-14). This was the experience of Zacchaeus, the chief tax collector of Jericho. Jesus was passing his way, and he so much wanted to see Jesus. Being a short person, he ran ahead and climbed a tree so he could have a better view as Jesus passed by.
How surprised Zacchaeus was, when Jesus reached the spot, looked up the tree and said, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately, I must stay at your house today.” What a day of great joy for Zacchaeus! In pidgin English we would say, “If na you…!”
Jesus’ decision to be the guest of Zacchaeus caused a furor among the self-acclaimed righteous people. They muttered that “He has gone to be the guest of a ‘sinner.'”
On his part Zacchaeus pledged half of his possessions to the poor and to pay back four times the amount of whatever he had cheated anybody of – if at all.
The story of Zacchaeus’ conversion is symbolic of the fact that Jesus is always stretching out his hand of salvation to those who are longing for him.
Again, when we experience the saving grace of Jesus, we repent of our past and make restitution and also stretch out hands of love to the less privileged.
To every sinner who like Zacchaeus opens the doors of her/his heart and house to the Lord Jesus Christ, he says “Today salvation has come to this heart/house, because this [wo]man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and save what was lost.”
Are you lost? You are the one Jesus is looking for! Open the doors of your heart and house to him. Thereafter, show fruits worthy of repentance!
Prayer: Thank you Lord Jesus Christ for seeking and finding a lost soul like me. Holy Spirit help me to bear fruit that is worthy of repentance. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
