“Return To The Lord; Your First Love!”
In the last few years we have heard frightening news of husbands/wives committing suicide or murder because of betrayals of love. In what has become a cliche, broken relationships lead to a question like, “After all I did for you, is this how you pay me back?” Grassfield wisdom will say, “I gave you refreshing water to drink, but in return you give me hot water!” Broken relationships often lead to generalisations such as, “All men are the same!” “Women are devils!”
Broken relationships when love and trust are betrayed lead to broken hearts. And some broken hearts never mend or heal.
If somebody had ever abused your trust or betrayed your love, then you will know how painful it has been with God who is our first love; whose trust and love we abused and betrayed!
Despite all the love God showered on us, it is painful that when “he looked for justice, he saw bloodshed; for righteousness, but he heard cries of distress”(Is.5:1-7).
We are an adulterous generation because we ignore the love that God our first love had and still has for us.
However, it is never too late with God and it is never over. He calls out, “Come now, let us reason together. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow…If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best from the land”(Is.1:18-19). Through the cross God has shown us the depth of his love. Look up to the cross and be reconciled to your first love!
Prayer: Holy Spirit touch our hardened hearts to seek justice and righteousness in the land, and take away from our midst bloodshed and the cries of distress. Amen!
