“Return To The Lord!”
Back in the days the only road that linked the grassfields region (graffi) to the coastal region of the then West Cameroon was through Mamfe. Traffic was one way.
It happened that one woman in Bali thought enough was enough in her marriage. She decided to abandon her marital home and run to the coast. She took a “mami wagon” (as those house-like transport vehicles were called) to Mamfe. At the park in Mamfe she jumped into another vehicle leaving for Bamenda. To her surprise she found herself in Bali again. When she realised her mistake of being back in Bali, she decided to go back to her marital home. She told herself that divorce was not meant for her.
The prophets of old often considered God as a husband to his people. God considered Israel as a faithless wife to whom “he gave a certificate of divorce and sent her away because of her adulteries.” Even so, God thought that what he had done to Israel will teach Judah a lesson. Rather, the “unfaithful sister Judah had no fear; she also went out and committed adultery…”
Idolatory is adultery. That is why it is said that unfaithful Israel “defiled the land and committed adultery with stone and wood”(Jer.3:6-10). They carved idols of stone and wood and worshipped them. Judah did not learn a lesson from her sister Israel. “Judah did return to me with all her heart, but only in pretense.”
Just like Israel or Judah we have abandoned our God (first love) running after idols that cannot save. Today the Lord calls, “Return, faithless people, for I am your husband…” God has renewed the marriage certificate as if nothing happened. A renewed marriage certificate which is the new covenant made with the blood of his Son.(Jer.3:14-17).
My friend, like we said yesterday and we are saying today, the keyword is, “return!” To return is to cease to be faithless and become faithful to God the Father of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To return is to believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and to obey the Triune God with the totality of our beings. To return is about “genuine repentance!”
Prayer of the week: Heavenly Father thank you for saving me through Christ Jesus. Holy Spirit enable me to be genuinely repentant. Amen.
Welcome back to a new working week. Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
