“Pray In The Spirit On All Occasions…!”(Eph.6:18-20).
We live in a spirited universe. The best that we are or can be as humans are not merely through our frail human prowess. At our best we are puppets whose strings are held in the spiritual realm.
Contending forces of evil wants to regain paradise lost and we become their pawns in their game. God controls everything, but he has allowed these forces of evil to prevail with the understanding that we are able to use frewill in a positive way.
We are reminded that “our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
Indeed, the evil we see here on earth is a manifestation of these spiritual forces in the heavenly realms. We fight losing battles when we meet them at the physical realm only.
Paul says we can only take our stand against the schemes of the devil when we “put on the whole armor of God.”
Of the whole armor of God, prayer is the weapon that enables us to stand against those schemes of the devil.
Again, we fail when our prayers are just physical. The evil spiritual forces laugh at our follies when they see us praying in the physical, which does not even scratch the plastered coatings of their habitats.
We are advised to “pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.” Prayer without discernment still does not open our eyes to see spiritual realities. So we have to “be alert always.”
Believers should also pray for those who bring the word of God so that they “will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel.”
We live in a world where the devil lures messengers of the gospel away from “The Way” by instilling fear in them, cowing them to keep their mouths shut when they ought to speak out courageously. We have to pray that they may declare the gospel courageously as they should!
“All kinds of prayers” includes prayer for self, interceding for others, making petitions, requests and thanksgiving; but it also includes praying with or without words, with our thoughts only, in tears, in songs and with the use of all our human senses.
But remember this:Most times “We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us…” so therefore, “Pray in the Spirit on all occasions!”
Prayer: Spirit Divine make our hearts your temple and be the fountain from where our prayers flow. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
