“Peace! Do Not Be Afraid…!”
Our reflections this week centres on God’s call. There are varying degrees to which individuals respond to the call of God. But in the majority those who are called try to refuse the call by giving the excuse of inadequacy.
The Lord told Gideon, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand…” Gideon did not think he was the right choice. He replied, “But Lord, how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.” The Lord assured him, “I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites together…Peace! Do not be afraid…”(Judg.6:11-24a).
God does not call without assurance of divine protection until the assignment is completed. We do not have to complain of our inadequacies to him who knows us inside out!
God is not interested in one’s social standing. “The Lord usually calls the lowly rather than the mighty to act for him.”
Again he will meet you at your place of work. The angel met Gideon at a winepress where he was threshing wheat. Very unsual place; but that is the consequences of war! The Israelites were hemmed by the Midianites. He had to thresh wheat in the confined space of a winepress instead of an open space for fear of the enemies. Yet God singled him out from there and sent him to bring victory to his people.
My friend, even today the Lord is telling you, “Overcome your fears and thoughts of inadequacy. You have been chosen for greater exploits. “Peace! Do not be afraid. You are not going to die!”
Prayer of the week: Holy Spirit be my encourager as I step out in the name of the Lord. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working week! Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
