“Only Through Jesus Christ Can Perfection Be Attained!”
A folk story about Abraham narrates that his father Terah was an idol worshipper. He had a big room filled the idols of various gods. One day Abraham entered that room and cut all the gods to pieces. His father was very angry with him. Abraham told his father, “If those idols have divine power let them get up and defend themselves.”
When the Christian religion first came into a certain European country, the king in council asked what his collaborators thought about the new religion. The first person to speak was the chief priest of their most revered deity. He told the king that he prays for the prosperity and successes of the people. If it is true that their deities are helpful, he ought to have been the first person to receive blessings from them. Unfortunately he has received nothing from those gods. He suggested it was better for them to embrace the new God. That is how the old gods were destroyed and Christianity became a national religion.
Coming close to home; I was baptized as an adult. I made a conscious decision to embrace the gospel of Christ. I realised that salvation comes through no other name but Christ. I also know that when you are up in the barn you do not take groundnuts with both hands. If you do, you will find difficulty descending on the ladder.
We ignore and abandon what we know to be inferior and direct our efforts in having and sustaining what is superior to what we previously had. Jesus Christ is a superior priest to Melchizedek who was king of Salem and priest of God Most High. Great as Abraham was he gave tithes to Melchizedek, which shows that Melchizedek was superior to Abraham.
Even the old priesthood through the bloodline of Levi did not bring any perfection. The reason why another priest was to come in the order of Melchizedek, not in the order of Aaron (Heb.7:1-14).
There comes a time when the old order must change to make way for the new. Old things pass away and all things become new (cf. II Cor. 5:17).
Dear friend, stop flirting with the priests of other religions. We have a great high priest in the order of Melchizedek but superior to Melchizedek and all other priests. There is none beside him! Jesus Christ alone is Superior!
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ thank you for being the priest through whom all perfection is attained. My faith is on you alone. Amen!
