“Make Your Home Deserving Of God’s Peace To Rest On It!”
Our focus this week has been on God reaching out to fallen humanity, ready to receive those who are willing to repent and return. We continue today with Jesus sending out the twelve apostles “to the lost sheep of Israel” preaching the message: “The kingdom of heaven is near.” They were to “heal the sick, raise the dead…drive out demons.” What they received freely they were to give freely. What a great contrast to what obtains today in most places!
Our focus is on the recipients. “Whatever town or village you enter, search for some worthy person there and stay at his house until you leave. As you enter the home, give it your greeting. If the home is deserving, let your peace rest on it; if it is not, let your peace return to you. If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town.” Jesus continued that on judgment day it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah than for such a town that are opposed to the gospel (Mtt.10:5-15).
God in Christ Jesus is still reaching out to us with the message of salvation. He is concerned with our wellbeing now as well as with our souls now and in the hereafter.
This offer is for all, but the beneficiaries are those who are receptive to the messengers, indicative of their responsiveness to the message.
Shalom (peace be with you) was the Jewish form of greeting. The word of God is brought to you in peace. If you receive it the peace remains with you, but if you reject it the giver withdraws it. Bottomline is: Be responsive to the call of God who is in search of the lost sheep!
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ thank you for seeking and finding me. Let your peace rest on my home. Amen!
