“Lord Tell Me What I Must Do!”
It is said, “you can run but you cannot hide!” Quite often we are so zealous “in God’s name” to the point of persecuting others in defense of the faith. By so doing we do not realise that it is the Lord that we are persecuting.
In the early days of the church Saul was such a zealot persecutor. As the church expanded, “Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples.” But God works in ways we cannot understand. Saul was on his way to Damascus to take more Christian prisoners to Jerusalem. But on his way he encountered Jesus who asked him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” Saul asked, “Who are you Lord?” “I am Jesus whom you are persecuting. Now get up and go to the city, and you will be told what you must do,”* was the reply he got. From there on he was blinded for three days during which he neither ate nor drank anything (Atcs 9:1-9).
Some lessons drawn for today:
1. God does not call us when we are saints or because we love him. He calls sinners to repentance to make them saints. He calls us because he first loved us.
2. It is a caution to us that the pain we cause others claiming that we do it “in God’s name” is not from him. By such actions we are merely feeding our prides and satisfying our egos!
3. God in Christ overlooks our betrayals, transforms our hates into purposeful and beneficial assignments to his glory.
4. When you have an encounter with Jesus Christ, “you will be told what you must do.” Remember: When something is a “must”, then it is imperative!
My friend, just as it is said that “God’s case, no appeal,” so too it can be said, “God’s call, no denial!”
Endeavour to always do the right thing in the fear of the Lord!
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ ignore my zeal when it is misdirected and tell me what I must do. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
