“Lord Jesus Christ, Thank You For Your Sacrifice!”
The writer of the letter to the Hebrews states, “The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming – not the realities themselves…” In the same line of thought Paul states, “Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror, then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully…”(I Cor.13:12).
However, Jesus Christ himself says, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law and the Prophets; I have not come to abolish then but to fulfil them ….”(Mtt.5:17f).
The presence of Jesus Christ does not completely eradicate the Law in the sense that a shadow is cast only by the reality just as much as a reflection in the mirror is cast by the reality itself. Jesus becomes a fulfilment of the Law in that he is the reality, whereas the Law is his shadow. He is the Law and his word is law. He is the perfect sacrifice for sin because he told the Father, “Here I am, I have come to do your will, O God…”
This reminds me of the song, “thy will O Lord not mine, I will obey…” O yes; “by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all”(Heb.10:1-10).
This is called GRACE; but it is not a licence to keep sinning because grace abounds. It is that in recognition and appreciation of what Jesus Christ has done we should lead lives that are worthy of God’s love.
When God’s love has been implanted in us, we would no longer start our services with a confession of sins pleading, “Take away from us O God our sins which seperate us from you…”
Sunday prayer: Lord Jesus Christ just as you did the will of the Father, may the Holy Spirit indwell me so that I submit to your will. Amen!
Have a blessed first Sunday of the year 2020. Peace be with you!
