“Lord Jesus Christ, Thank You For Sacrificial Love!”
Today we have an unusual Christmas text. Jesus is right on the cross. Near his cross are his “mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.” Also present is the disciple whom Jesus loved. Jesus tells his mother, “Dear woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple he says, “Here is your mother.” We are told that from then on the disciple took care of Mary the mother of Jesus (Jn.19:25-27).
A text with Jesus on the cross, when we are just few days to commemorating his birth can only mean one thing: It is to remind us that “the life that was given to us on Christmas was given for us on Calvary.”
Apart from the above the text teaches us to celebrate our mothers. Mary at the foot of her son’s cross is a portrayal of true mother’s love. Nine months in the womb, breastfeeding and nursing and at death being present; in the midst of threats. This is mother’s love indeed! *The late Prince Nico Mbarga celebrated mother in “Sweet Mother,” pledging never to forget the suffering his mother went through for his sake. Oh yes, *”Mother is Gold!” What a great lesson to us all!* The presence of the other women teaches us to respect and celebrate all mothers and women as well. They are always there when fathers are out jollying and frolicking!
My friend, as you await to receive the baby Jesus, remember his second coming when he comes as Judge of all humanity. Fill the little potholes in your life as you wait for him!
Prayer: Thank you Lord for the show of sacrificial love. Holy Spirit help me to be a paragon of such unrestrained love. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
