“Lord, I Give You All The Praise!”
No matter how powerful a humanbeing can be, s/he is limited before God! We may become anything but whatever you become don’t forget that all glory belongs to God. God delivers the humble but strikes down the arrogant in unprecedented ways.
King Herod had arrested Peter and other church members with the intention of executing them. On the night before the execution an angel of the Lord miraculously freed Peter.
In the morning “there was no small commotion among the soldiers as to what became of Peter.” After a thorough search for him to no avail, Herod “cross-examined the guards and ordered that they be executed.” This is how powerful Herod was!
But he was only as powerful as God permitted! As has been said of old, when the divinities want to destroy you they raise you up to their level. They do this by making you power-drunk! When you are power-drunk you become arrogant, boastful and proud.
Herod dressed “in his royal robes, sat on his throne and dekivered a public address to the people.” The people shouted, “This is the voice of a god, not a man.”
Herod heard this and was puffed up like a peacock. And because he did not give praise to God, he was immediately struck down by an angel of the Lord “and he was eaten by worms and he died.”
My friend, all that we are come from God. Whatever we achieve we should make sure that all glory go back to him. The song writer reminds us, “All good things around us are sent from heaven above. Then thank the Lord for all his love.”
The passage ends with one of the finest summary of progress in the spread of Christianity: “But the word of God continued to increase and spread” (Acts 12:18-24).
In today’s world those who want to take glory for themselves hinder the word of God in many ways. They persecute those who do not sing their praises and this causes those of little faith to lose faith in the faith! “Herod’s disease” awaits any such person! We should learn to always give glory to God for what he achieves through us. We are merely tools in his hands. We must constantly remind ourselves that God’s word will continue to increase andvspread without us!
Weekend prayer: Lord all glory belongs to you for whoever I have become and whatever I accomplish. May your name be praised now and forever. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
