“Lord, I Am At Your Service…!”
Nelson Mandela lived the reality of a “Long Walk To Freedom.” When freedom finally came it became evident that there is “No Easy Walk To Freedom.” Twenty seven years of imprisonment for him and twenty six years for Walter Sisulu, the man who recruited him into the African National Congress (ANC) and a few years less than twenty seven for some others.
God does not call us for an armchair, ivy tower life of comfort assignment. He calls us to operate in the midst of grave dangers. He calls us knowing our inabilities, so he equips us with the tools necessary for the assignment.
In every sense when God calls, the assignment is to reconstruct. Reconstruction entails the deconstruction of what has been constructed. The rulers of nations and kingdoms cannot be fair to the person who comes “to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow” just because he wants “to build and to plant” (Jer.1:4-10).
Reconstruction requires the pulling down of both the satanic “domination system” which holds God’s children in the captivity of sin, political stagnation, social and economic disequilibrium and anthropological impoverishment!
It was for the purpose of spiritual reconstruction that Jesus diverted Simon Peter from being a fisherman to becoming a fisher of men (Lk.5:1-11).
It is in the same way that Saul the enemy of the gospel became its number one defender and propagator. Jesus told him, “…I am sending you to them to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith.”(Acts 26:1&9-18).
Like we said, there is danger where God is sending the messengers. Danger because people feel comfortable in their comfort zones and do not want anything to rock their boat. However, such seeming comfort is nothing but “pie in the sky!”
Aware of the imminent resistance God assures those he assigns. To Jeremiah he said, “Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you”(Jer.1:8); To Simon Peter Jesus said, “Do not be afraid…”(Lk.5:10), and to Paul Christ said, “I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles”(Acts 26:17).
My friend, there is some reconstruction work that has to be done somewhere. God is calling and assigning you to the task. Go and do it! Do not be afraid! The Lord is with you all the way!
Sunday prayer: Lord I am at your service. Use me for your reconstruction work. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
