“Lord Have Your Way With Me, But Only Save Me Now!”
Nations considered as contemporary world super powers may not for once wonder what happened to the great civilizations of old as we learned about in history and through archaeological finds. There is an “Unmoved Mover” who controls the time and tide. He has set the way of natural order and determines the patterns by which it must flow. Any deviations attracts dissasters and calamities.
Each time we do what is evil in the sight of the Lord and serve other gods, his anger is kindled against us and we are sold into the hands of our adversaries.
But like the prodigal son when we realise that we are the cause of our misfortunes, it is prudent to cry out to the Lord saying, “We have sinned against you, because we have forsaken our God and have served the Baals.”
In his fury God may still tell us that we should go and cry to those man-made gods let them save us. But we shouldn’t turn away in frustration that our Lord has abandoned us. We should rather submit ourselves to his mercy crying, “We have sinned; do to us whatever seems good to you; only deliver us we, pray you…”
To do so is not by lip service alone. Our human failings is that we confess with our tongues and ask for forgiveness but we do not bear fruits worthy of repentance. When we confess our sins we must put away the foreign gods from among us and serve the Lord. He will become indiignant of our misery (Judg.10:6-16).
Let us as individuals and as a nation return to the Lord in true penitence by throwing aside every idol that clings so closely unto us. Our Lord is like a hen, achingly spreading its wings to shelter its chicks from cold and birds of prey. He is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. Suit repentance with action by putting away that which alienates you from God and serve him and only him!
Prayer: Dear Lord, I have sinned; do to me whatever seems good to you, only deliver me this day. Amen!
