“Lord Equip Me With Willpower To Overcome Evil Desires!”
If we were to follow Jesus’ advice to cut off the hand or foot which causes us to sin or to gouge out the eye that cause us to sin, the world would’ve been full of people with incomplete body parts. But still sin would not have been eradicated.
These difficult and unpopular sayings of Jesus are intended to drive home the truth that the physical pain of losing a hand or an eye is nothing compared to the pain of eternal damnation.
A humanbeing as a social, cultural and political animal cannot live without others. Each person’s decision and action has a positive or negative impact upon others.
Your status detremines the number of people you impact and your choices determine the number of people you influence; depending on the collective mindset of your audiences.
People can maim themselves and gouge out their eyes, but sin will still be there because desire is what causes the hand or eye to cause one to sin. What we need most is the will power to suppress or overcome evil desires. When we fail in this, we can (un)intentionally cause others to sin because our decisions and actions must always affect others.
Therefore, to free ourselves of sin we must implore the Holy Spirit to help us each day to have the will power to overcome evil desires. The things that cause people to sin must come, but let it not come through us (Mt.18:6-9).
Prayer: Holy Spirit equip me with the will power to overcome evil desires. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
