“Live In Readiness For The Day Of The Lord!”
John was exiled to the island of Patmos because he was a witness for Jesus Christ. Jesus is the stone the builders rejected but which became the cornerstone.
Among other things that were revealed to John during his exile was the nature of the second coming of Christ.
The names given to Jesus tells us what we should expect when he comes. He is called “Faithful and True.” His other names are “the Word of God” and “KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.”
“With justice he judges and makes war.” He comes with “a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. He will rule them with an “iron scepter.” He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty”(Rev.19:11-16).
The imagery of a winepress was common in the Old Testament and used for the execution of God’s wrath. To make wine the grapes were gathered and thrown into the winepress and trampled upon with the feet until the juice was squeezed. Those who come from palm areas know what it means because they follow almost the same process to produce palm oil.
Jesus’ second coming is a time of gathering humans like grapes and thrown into “the great winepress of God’s wrath” and trampled outside the city…”(Rev.14:19). First he will eradicate evil, vindicate the righteous and then the rapture.
The question for us, are we prepared for such a day? Joel calls that day “great and dreadful day of the Lord.” The goodnews is that on that day “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved”(Jl.2:31-32).
By the names he bears we should know what to expect. Let us live each day in readiness since he will come like a thief in the night!
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit guide me on life’s journey to live in readiness for the day of the Lord. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
