“Let The Power Of Love Overcome Hate!”
It was a mixed crowd that was involved in that drama of triumphal entry jubilation. There were those who considered how the fool easily fell into their trap. These included “the chief priests and the teachers of the law” who “were looking for some sly way to arrest Jesus and kill him.” The haters were not only the enemies without. They could only get to Jesus through the enemy in the house. “Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve” who “went to the chief priests to betray Jesus.” He too was among the jubilant crowd of the triumphal entry.
But the crowd also consisted of those whose hearts were full of love for Jesus. There were those who would have rioted if Jesus was killed during the Feast. There was the likes of Simon the leper and above all, the woman who poured an expensive perfume on Jesus’ head, to the chargrin of money mongers like Judas Iscariot.
Jesus was aware of all that was going on around him and about him. He knew that in his inner circle one of them will betray him.
In celebrating the Passover meal, he filled it with new content. The bread of the Passover has since become his body broken for the sake of fallen humanity and the fellowship wine after the meal his “blood of the new covenant which is poured out for many”(Mk.14:1-26).
My friend, the lessons here are that you are always in the midst of those who hate you and would go to any length just to destroy you. Worst is that amongst such is “one who dips bread into the bowl with” you. On the other hand are those who love you genuinely and can riot if anything happens to you. Amongst them are those who love you and can waste the most expensive perfumes on you.
In all we are surrounded more by those who love us than the haters! Always allow the power of love to overcome hate!
Like Jesus when we know what the enemies have to do, we just have to go on doing what we have to do which is in the will of the Father. There is always a glorious end when it is in accordance with God’s will.
Prayer of the week: Holy Spirit give me the strength to be tolerant of haters and to know that anything that happens is in God’s will. Amen!
We wish you a blessed and reflective Paasion Week! Peace be with you!
