“Let The Living Praise The LORD!”(Is.38:16-20).
Today we continue with the song of king Hezekiah after his recovery from his “near death” sickness. “…You restored me to health and let me live. Surely it was for my benefit that I suffered such anguish. In your love you kept me from the pit of destruction, you have put all my sins behind your back…The living, the living – they praise you, as I am doing…The LORD will save me, and we will sing…all the days of our lives in the temple of the LORD.”
More and more, the medical corps understands that they offer treatment but it is God who heals. During the exodus the children of Israel grumbled against the LORD and Moses. And they were bitten by venomous snakes and many died. The people confessed to the LORD. Moses prayed and the LORD told Moses, “Make a snake and put it on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it” So Moses made a bronze snake and put it on a pole. Whoever was bitten by a snake looked at the bronze snake and was healed(Num.21:4-9).
In later days Jesus Christ said, “Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life”(Jn.3:14-15).
Today the sign of the bronze snake is a universal health symbol; which is to say the world inadvertently acknowledges the Lordship of Christ.
Yes, it is the LORD who restores us to health. Those who have been sick to the point where they lost hope of recovery know what it means to recover again. Indeed,“all things” work for the good of those who love God and who are called according to his purpose. The “all things” include sickness. The God of good times is also the God of bad times. But on the highway of life bad times are rather speedbrakes for our safety and not obstructions.
It is needful that at all times we should come before the LORD with contrite and repentant hearts. Then when you recover from a sickness or accident, you would know that in his love the LORD has put all your sins behind his back and restored you.
Dear friend, if we are alive today it is because of the LORD’s goodness, mercy and compassion. So let the living praise the LORD first for our salvation and for grace that abounds.
Prayer: Thank you Lord Jesus Christ for being the bronze snake that brings us healing. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
Rev Babila Fochang.
