“Leave Your Time In God’s Hands!” (Ecc.3:1-14).
Ecclesiastes is one of the biblical books considered as “wisdom literature.”
It looks easy to flow along with the Teacher because truly “everything is meaningless.” If we actually live with the consciousness that “there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven,” we would be humbler and more tolerant of others than we are.
To say God has set the time for everything is about predestination. Predestination teaches that God knew before time all that is and all that will be. As a result, he infallibly guides those who are destined for salvation. Two words that seemingly contradicts predestination are surprise and accident.
Surprise refers to “an unexpected or astonishing event…” while accident is “an unfortunate incident that happens unexpectedly, typically resulting in damage or injury.”
How do we explain surprise and accident in predestination? Does God know beforehand that a plane – which he did not make – would crash and record many deaths? Is it in the will of God for somebody to be killed by a gunshot? Can a stray bullet that kills somebody be an accident or it was predestined?
But who are we, mere clay in the hands of the potter to ask the potter what he does with the clay?
“God has made everything beautiful in its time.” Human actions are prone towards distorting the beauty of what God has made beautiful in its time. But despite all our efforts and energies at whatever, we can neither add nor take what God does. “Everything God does will endure forever.” Predestination means we are born to die, it is not about how we die.” It is about how we live now as a preparation for where we shall spend eternity. Even so, when our travelling days are done, death itself becomes beautiful in its time!
Life may be “untterly meaningless,” there may be a time for everything, but how you make use of that time is important.
Remember, whatever God does, “God does this so that men will revere him.”
Live a life that is worthy of eternity, “fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil”(Ecc.12:13-14).
Prayer of the week: Lord, humble me to live in the consciousness that you have set the time for everything. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working week! Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
