“Leave God To Fight His Battles…!”(Jn.10:31-38).
It is noted in all religions that the representatives of each religion tend to defend their Deities than the Deities themselves. Sometimes one wonders if Deities really care whether they are mocked, blasphemed or ridiculed. Do they worry whether they are worshipped or not?
I repeat that the Supreme Being by any name remains the Supreme Being.
Today we are reflecting on a passage where fanatics of Judaism picked up stones to stone Jesus. Jesus said to them, “I have shown you many great miracles from the Father. For which of this do you stone me?”
Their response is interesting: “We are not stoning you for any of these, but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.”
The Jews considered the words of Jesus to be blasphemy. So they were ready to apply the law that said, “anyone who blasphemes the name of the LORD must be put to death. The entire assembly must stone him. Whether an alien or native-born, when he blasphemes the Name, he must be put to death”(Lev.24:16). The nature of a blasphemy according to the text was “cursing God”(Lev.24:10-15).
We may dare to say, by seeing Jesus’ words as blasphemy, and the readiness to apply this law was in itself a travesty of justice.
Exodus says, “The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still”(14:14).
If the LORD is the one to fight our battles, then we are in no position to fight for him. He can fight for himself when he wants to.
Whenever you see men of God ready to carry out the law without due process, know that there is evil intention against the victim.
The Jews aknowledged that they appreciated all the works of Jesus. But since inwardly they were seething with envy, they had to hang on the least word which to them resembled blasphemy. And for this, they were ready to apply the law without due process! What a world! God was right to say that “every inclination of his (man’s) heart is evil from childhood…”(Gen.8:21b).
Jesus’ claim to be God is indisputable because we lack the evidence to prove that he is not. But if we have no arguments against his works, then the source of his power cannot be gainsaid.
One thing I am convinced about is to allow God fight his battles because it is he who fights our battles so that we should know that he is God.
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit inspire us and make Divine mysteries clearer to us. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
