“Keep Your Conscience Clear Before God And Man!”
Paul was accused for being “a troublemaker, stirring up riots among the Jews all over the world” as a “ringleader of the Nazarene sect…” In his defense before the governor Paul said he was being accused for believing in the same God whom the people believed in.
The only difference was his admittance that “I worship the God of our fathers as a follower of the Way, which they call a sect. I believe everything that agrees with the law and what is written in the Prophets, and I have the same hope in God as these men, that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked. So I strive always to keep my conscience clear before God and man…” Paul told the governor that if there was to be any accusation against him, it was that before the Sanhedrin he shouted, “It is concerning the resurrection of the dead that I am on trial before you today…”(Acts 24:10-24).
In our discussions about misleading theologies we raised a fundamental question of what is lacking which leads to secterian movements?
In the case of Paul above, we realise that he was a Jewish believer in every sense of the word except that he worshipped the God of their fathers as “a follower of the Way, which they call a sect…” Judaism worshipped God but there was a gap. Jesus Christ filled that gap and that convinced Paul to be converted to be his follower.
In Christ the resurrection hope became a reality. I know how uncomfortable you feel when the week’s teachings centre around the resurrection. But there is no need to fear death. Consider the so many young people whose lives have wasted in the last three years! What hope is there for them except that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked?”
What you should be worried about is whether you and I shall resurrect as righteous or wicked people! Therefore, like Paul always strive to keep your conscience clear before God and man so that your accusers may not have any charges against your faith.
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ may my decision to follow you not waver as I testify to the resurrection. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
