“Jesus The Christ Is Enough For Me!”
A lady was seriously injured in a car accident. Among those who saw the lady was somebody who thought he knew her. They called the lady’s husband to come and see if the injured woman was his wife. When the man came to the accident scene he rather surprised and embarrassed everybody when he said, “Give me her identity card let me check to know if it is my wife.”
We are told that some two thousand plus years ago “some of the Pharisees and teachers of the law said to Jesus, ‘Teacher, we want to see a miraculous sign from youChrist .”
Jesus told them, “A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a miraculous sign!…” Asking for a miraculous sign before affirming Jesus as the Christ is tantamount to spiritual adultery! It means becoming unfaithful to God our spiritual husband.
The people wanted a spectacular miracle, prefarably in the sky, but Jesus did not succumb to their pressure. On the contrary, he gave them a sign from history which was familiar to them. “But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.”
Today many are those who say the African continent is steeped in poverty because people spend more time in prayer than work. There is nothing wrong in that accusation. The problem is when they say African Christians are believing in a man they claim died and rose again, yet with no evidence to prove that he is alive!
We do not need logic to substantiate the things of faith. If it is true, then it is true! Jesus’ resurrection is the proof that he is greater than the greatest! If it is not true for you, no miraculous sign will convince you of the contrary.
Jesus shared our humanity in every way and this qualified him for what he became, just as much as it can qualify us for what we are to become if we obey him. During his earthly life “he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he heard him. Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him and was designated by God to be high priest…”(Heb.5:7-10).
Obedience is the soft cushion of faith and belief. No degree of miraculous signs can convince the disobedient!
Sunday prayer: Lord Jesus Christ strengthen my faith and belief in your resurrection power. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
