“Jesus Is Alive; I Can Face Tomorrow!”
Our people say a big forest has many species of flora. Corinth seemed to have been one such big forest. As we read Paul’s letters to the Corinthians we realise that the Corrinthian church had a lot of issues to contend with. All the same, it is to be expected of any church in a busy commercial city. Any cosmopolitan setting must have to deal with diversity since people come from various socialisation and cultural backgrounds with different worldviews.
Some of the Corinthian Christians said there was no resurrection. This must have been the influnce of Jewish converts who were Sadducees. “If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith…” Despite the refutal of the ressurrection by some, there were others who received baptism on behalf of their dead ones who died before Christ. There are witnesses to testify that “Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep…”(I Cor.15:12-29).
It is not as if this refutal ended with the Corinthians. Even today, right in our milieu there are those who say, “Ah, leave that resurrection thing…!”
One thing I know is you are not a Christian if you doubt the resurrection! The Christian church was born on the day Christ was raised from the dead. His followers saw the Risen Lord and vouched for him with their lives.
Jesus is alive and is with the Father as our great intercessor. And because he lives, we too will live when this mortal body is laid to rest. Dead no longer has any sting! Death has been swallowed up in victory! Hallelujah! I rejoice that because Christ kives, I can face tomorrow; because my tomorrow will be better than my today!
Holy Spirit strengthen my faith through my belief in the resurrection power. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
