“I Am The Lord…I Will Settle You In Your Own Land!”
God sometimes asks a prophet to act out the message to demonstrate its gravity. When he called Hosea he asked him to go and take for himself an adulterous wife and children of unfaithfulness “because the land is guilty of the vilest adultery in departing from the Lord…” (Ho.1:2-9).
In the case of Ezekiel, at one time God brought him out by the Spirit to the valley of dry bones. God asked him to prophesy to the dry bones, which he did and the bones joined together. He was further asked to prophesy to the breath which gave life to the dry bones.
This action was a metaphor for the spiritual death of exiled Israel through sinfulness. By giving life to the dry bones God was indicating how he will restore the hope of his exiled people.
You see friend, whenever for you all hope is lost, God assures, “I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and I have done it…” (Ez.37:1-14). Dear Lord, the craving for homeland is our greatest cry now!
The message of bringing dry bones back to life is a kind “doublespeak, but not in a negative sense! In its literally intended physical sense the exiled will return home and be established again. They will know that it is only God who holds the future for their restoration and re-establishment. In a metaphorical afterlife sense, the life given to the dry bones is indicative of how through Jesus Christ, the Risen Lord, the repented who die believing in him will live again.
Oh yes; my friend, God holds your future in his hands. Your present situation which may be your dry bone is temporary! Life at its best lies in your future! Let your hope remain undaunted!
On the other hand, you have a place in heaven if you turn away from sin and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Prayer: Breathe your Spirit in me O Lord and bring my dry bones back to life. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
