“Grace And Peace To You From Him Who Is, And Who Was, And Who Is To Come!”
It is about some thirty years ago when Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke came to Kumba, Cameroon. Preaching one evening he asked the question, “People of Kumba when I go to heaven am I going to see you there?” In my theological journey I have been pondering on Bonnke’s question and my conclusion is that great surprises awaits us all.
However, we are sure to be there, that’s why we sing, “The kingdom of the Lord is for you and me, if you are not there then you loss your life…”
We have this confidence because there is someone “who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father…”
Despite this assurance that we belong to the kingdom, there are going to be very embarrassing surprises. Some of us may be like the church in Sardis having a reputation of being alive meanwhile we are dead.
On the other hand there are those who call on the name of Jesus, yet are not following him. In our human limitations we would prefer to stop them, but the words of Jesus reverberates on us, “Do not stop him, for whoever is not against you is for you.”(Lk.9:50).
God does not discriminate and reject as much as we would have loved him to do. We should just concentrate in serving God just as Jesus has made us to do. When he comes again we should be counted among the saved.
Again to show us the unlimited scope of God’s grace and mercy, when Jesus returns, “…every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of him…” It is about “every eye” and “all the peoples;” it is not about some eyes and some people. Jesus Christ like his Father is the Alpha and Omega. (Alpha and Omega are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet). In other words he is “the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End”(Rev.22:13). He is the One “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.” He sovereignly rules over all humanity.
My friend, the year 2020 has already been recorded in the annals of history as the year in which all the kings and queens, princes and princesses; all the prelates and laity were cowed to open their eyes to see that “Jesus Christ is the ruler of the kings of the earth” (Rev.1:4-8). Let us all learn to humble ourselves before “The Great I Am” in acknowledgment of our mortal limitations. Question to ponder: When he comes, will you be ready?
Weekend prayer: Lord as we await your coming, humble us in whatever task we do in serving you. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
