“God Is Faithful; Let Our Gospel Be A ‘Yes’ Without Compromise!”(II Cor.1:18-22).
It is said that during a certain morning court session Lincoln argued a certain case very strongly against a certain criminal. In the afternoon session of the same day he defended a certain criminal whose case was similar to that of the morning session. The judge was surprised and asked him why the sudden change of stance? Lincoln answered, “My lord, I may have been wrong in the morning, but now I am right.”
In his song, “Happy Birthday,” the late Prince Nico Mbarga sang, “…Let your ‘yes’ be ‘yes’, your ‘no’ be ‘no,’ then you go live long for this world…” We serve a consistent God and consistency is what is expected of us who are called according to his purpose.
There are also times when we face stiff oppositions and attacks that may endure us to compromise what is true and correct. For some years now I’ve insisted on my position in defense of what some now say was a framed up crisis that never was. I stand corrected to say, on that matter I maintain what I stood for then. Majority may win the vote, but the majority is not necessarily right – except on the grounds that “might is right!”
When we get up one day and confess that a certain doctrine which we propagated was wrong, it shows some lack of consistency. How do you reach out to all the people who believed what you said, if you now tell them that what you taught them was wrong? How can you convince them to believe the new teaching?
We must be consistent to be credible! Paul told the Corinthians, and by extension us, “But as surely as God is faithful, our message to you is not ‘Yes’ and ‘No.’ For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by me and Silas and Timothy, was not ‘Yes’ and ‘No,’ but in him it has always been ‘Yes.’ For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ…it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.”
God does not change. The core message which we preach and which we believe is Jesus Christ, the Son of God. It is a ‘Yes,’ without a ‘No!’ The message of the gospel is a timeless consistent truth! “God is faitful!” And faithfulness is consistency.
Bottom line: We believe strongly that Christ is coming again, our conviction is from God himself who makes all of us to stand firm in Christ. God has anointed us. He has set his seal of ownership on us. He has put his Spirit in our hearts. His Spirit in our hearts is a deposit that guarantees what is to come.
That is why we know that what is to come will come. The Lord Jesus Christ, Judge of the world is coming soon!
Let us prepare for him through a consistent ‘Yes’ and not a ‘Yes’ and ‘No!’ God is faithful!
Prayer: LORD thank you for anointing us and putting your Spirit in our hearts as a deposit guaranteeing our future hope. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you! Merry Christmas!
