“Go And Tell Pharaoh To Let The Israelites Go…!”(Ex.7:1-13).
The story of the biblical exodus is being replayed like a drama before our very eyes. The Exodus is the story of a people who moved to another country and were well received.
Everything was moving smoothly until “a new king who did not know Joseph, came to power in Egypt.”(Ex.1:8). He was envious of the Israelites and that is when trouble began.
That is when God sent Moses and Aaron to go tell Pharaoh, “Let my people go…!”
The Exodus is a story of liberation of God’s children. “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying…and I am concerned about their suffering…I have come to rescue them…”(Ex.3:7-8).
“Let my people go” is the cry for freedom and liberation that rings through the generations within time and space. Let my people go is God telling oppressors that he is a God of the oppressed!”
Oppressors are able only in so far as God permits. God himself says,“But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and though I multiply my miraculous signs and wonders in Egypt, he will not listen to you…”
And that is what happened. When Moses and Aaron performed the first miracle before Pharaoh, he scorned at them; his “heart became hard and he would not listen to them, just as the LORD had said.”
God does not contradict himself. He hardened Pharaoh’s heart just so that “the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring the Israelites out of it.” God will always give tyrants long ropes to draw, but the end is dissaster and destruction of a people.
Pharaoh’s magicians may match their magic with the miraculous signs of God performed through Aaron, but Aaron’s staff will swallow the staffs of Pharaoh’s magicians.
God is not mocked. Tyrants, whether in homes, within families, groups, corporate bodies, churches or nations, beware!
When we hear his word we should not harden our hearts.
Prayer of the week: Holy Spirit soften my heart as I hear God’s word and act on it. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working day and week! Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
