“Give Ear To The Word Of The Lord!”
The late Dr. Moses Fokong of the defunct West Cameroon Modern Jazz orchestra was convinvced that musicians are in the line of prophets. He said in each generation God gives to a community someone who will communicate his words to the community through music.
We know of course that not all musicians are prophetic, but there exist some basic truth in what he said. There is prophecy in songs with the biblical Book of Psalms as proof.
That said, God told Moses, “…I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers; I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him. If anyone does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name, I myself will call him to account”(Dt.18:15-19).
This was to lead to the continuity of prophets for each generation and became the basis for “later Messianic expection which received a unique fulfilment in Jesus.”
The Lord sends us prophets to proclaim the message of salvation, if we do not listen to them God will call us to account.
When the rich man pleaded from hell that Abraham should send Lazarus to earth to warn his brothers about the realities of hell Abraham told him: “If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead”(Lk.16:19-31).
My friend, true prophecy must be pronounced from the solid foundation that “Jesus is Lord!” God said, “If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord does not take place or come true, that is a message the Lord has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not believe him”(Dt.18:22). Listen to the prophets and pray for discernment so as to believe in the Word of life.
Prayer: Father thank you for a new week. Holy Spirit give me a discerning spirit to help me accept God’s word. Amen!
Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
