“Fulfil All Righteousness By Doing The Little Things That Seems Demeaning!”
John the Baptist said his baptism was to prepare the way for Jesus. Then suddenly Jesus comes to John to be baptized. This didn’t make sense to John. He told Jesus, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”
Jesus replied, “Let it be so for now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfil all righteousness.” These are humbling words. Sometimes things go wrong because we either put the cart before the horse or because we consider some things to be demeaning to our personalities. When we have inflated egos we become conceited and full of empty pride.
To fulfil all righteousness we must humble ourselves and do what is in the will of God. God did not see anything wrong for Jesus to be baptized by John. That is why when Jesus was baptized and as “he went out of the water…heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased'”(Mt.3:13-17).
Both Jesus and John by their actions have bequeathed to us the legacy of doing things according to laid down rules. If John was the arguing type he would have stood his ground and refused to baptize Jesus. That too would have been a show of pride for refusing to do what Jesus as a superior asked him to do! Nobody is too big to do what has to be done when it has to be done. God is pleased with us when we fulfil all righteousness by doing what has to be done.
Prayer of the week: Holy Spirit make me humble so that I shouldn’t undermine doing those things that fulfil all righteousness. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working week and have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
