“From The Word Of God Seek Strength To Overcome Temptation!”
The problem with the devil is that he never realises that he is a loser where the Spirit of God is concerned. In the temptation of Jesus it was the Spirit that led him to the desert to be tempted by the devil. Since the Spirit was with him, he completed his fast of forty days and nights before the devil came to tempt him.
The devil however knew that after the fast Jesus had acquired uncommon spiritual powers. It is obvious that Jesus was soon to break his fast, but the devil wanted him to turn stones into bread. The devil knew that Jesus is the Son of God but he wanted Jesus to use his supernatural powers as the Son of God.
Jesus did not give in to the devil. He could order the stones to become bread, but if he did it would mean he obeyed the devil.
Israel had been tested as God humbled them, causing them to hunger and then feeding them with manna just to teach them that “man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord “(Dt.8:1-5).
Jesus had to overcome this temptation in the spirit of continuity so as to qualify as Saviour of the world. He overcame the temptation of food which Adam did not and which led humanity into sin.
In the second temptation the devil wanted Jesus to jump from a high point because according to scriptures God will send angels to protect him. Again it was still about wanting Jesus to use the powers that he has.
When Jesus did not yield to him, he now came up with the next one which we all easily fall for: greed for materialism! The devil wanted Jesus to worship him so that he would give Jesus all the things of the world. But to worship the devil is to turn away from God who alone deserves our worship (Mtt.4:1-11).
My friend, the temptation of Jesus simply sums up that it is not about how powerful you are, but do you always want to prove that power? If you do, it means you have succumbed to the devil! Are you ready to worship the devil so that you can become wealthy? God forbid!
Use the word of God to stand your ground against the devil; the devil will leave you and angels will come and attend to you.
Prayer of the week: Temptations will surely be there but Lord give me the power to overcome them with the word of God. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working week. Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
