“Father Thank You For The Assurance Of Our Restoration!”(Zph.3:18-20).
Hot water was poured on baby bed bugs for their first time. Since it was their first experience of hot water, they writhed in pain. Mother bug who was accustomed to hot water comforted them saying, “Do not cry, whatever is hot will surely get cold.” Indeed, after “every storm comes a calm.” Life is a mixture of pain and sorrow, joy and happiness, but for those who walk in the way of the Lord there is always a happy ending.
Sometimes the pain we experience like the bed bugs are caused by others, but even so we are still to blame. For instance, the bed bugs feed on blood, so it finds comfortable habitation in dirty clothes from where they now feed on the blood of the user. To kill or drive them the clothes are soaked in hot water.
On the other hand, storms are natural, but can cause havoc to humans before abating.
The Holy book is a compendium of assurances that those who put their trust in God shall inherit the land overflowing with milk and honey – may be some in this life, but especially in eternity.
The prophet Zephaniah like Isaiah, Joel and Amos has as main theme the day of the coming of the Lord. At that time God will punish the nations; including his chosen people who have drifted into apostasy.
However, he ends with hope and assurance. Yahweh will restore the nation, the people called by his name. The Lord says,“I will rescue the lame and gather those who have been scattered. I will give them praise and honor in every land where they were put to shame…I will bring you home. I will give you honor and praise among all the peoples of the earth when I restore your fortunes before your very eyes.”
This promise may have been pronounced in favor of Judah, but the apostle Peter points out to its all-inclusiveness when he says,“The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off – all for whom the Lord our God will call”(Acts 2:39).
World attention may be focused on Russia and Ukraine, but we in homeland and other parts of the continent are in the throes of oppression, suppression, humiliation and sometimes outright dehumanization. We have come to learn what it truly means to live one day at a time. Even so, we know our tomorrow will be better than today, because the Lord himself has assured us of our restoration.
With the risen Christ in the boat we are smiling at our storms. Whatever is hot will surely get cold; maybe later than sooner. In Christ Jesus we know that the storm will be over someday, somehow because the Father has said so.
Prayer: Heavenly Father thank you for the assurance of our restoration in the name of Jesus Christ your son our Lord. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
Rev Babila Fochang.
