“Father Almighty, Thank You For Grace That Saves!”
Who is he who has not been in Paul’s kind of experience when he writes, “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do…As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do – this I keep doing. Now if I do not do what I want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it… For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members…”
One man’s conclusion of this is that God and Satan have chosen to fight and man’s soul seems to be the battle ground.
Yesterday drawing inspiration from the first part of this struggle with sin, we said that “…the law exposes us to what is sinful and gives us the opportunity to use freewill with a willpower to overcome sinful desires…” If that was so easy to do on our own, then it will mean we are so self-sufficient, such that we need nothing from God. Far from it such a willpower is the regenerated spiritual being caused by the “Christ in me, the hope of glory.”
Paul points to this when he concludes his exasperation with the question, “What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Then he answers, “Thanks be to God – through Jesus Christ our Lord!” (Rom.7:14-25a).
In other words Paul is saying, “Thank God for grace that saves through the blood of Jesus Christ!”
Yes, in the battle against sin the spiritual self is pulling us one way and the sinful body is pulling us in another direction. But when Christ dominates, we become overcomers! Pray and act for the Cross in you to increases as the sinful flesh dissipates.
Prayer: Thank you Father Almighty as you rescue me from this body of death through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
