“Fan Into Flame The Gift Of God!” (II Tim. 1:6-10).
The mentioned passage above is a rich message from Paul to his spiritual son Timothy.
From the text we note that Paul was the one who empowered Timothy for ministry through the laying of hands (ordination). Apart from that, Timothy’s sincere faith was cross-generational. Such faith first lived in his grandmother Lois and in his mother Eunice.
As we put ourselves in the place of Timothy and claim his message for ourselves let us highlight the following:
The gifts we receive from God have to be worked upon. If you have the gift of singing you must constantly fine-tune your voice and apply the right intonations to make your singing refreshing to your audiences. And if you have the gift of composing music you must work on it so that you select the right words that glorifies God within a right context. Etc! To this effect Paul reminds, “fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you…”
Those whom God has empowered should not be timid. “We have been given the spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.” Imagine what force Christians can command and use for the welfare of humanity if they utilise in love and with self-discipline the power we have received!
When we stand out for truth, we are standing in defense of the gospel.
We have the backing of the power of God who has saved us and has called us to a holy life. God has chosen us, not because we deserve it, but because of his own purpose and grace. It is therefore needful that we should constantly seek through the Holy Spirit to know God’s purpose and submit to him.
The joyful ending of our lives after this life is that through the appearing of our Lord and Saviour Christ Jesus death has been destroyed and life and immortality has been brought to light through the gospel.
The gospel is light, if we abide in it, then we have life now and immortality hereafter. So then, keep fanning into flame the gift of God.
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit help me to to fan into flame the gift of God given to me according to his purpose and grace. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
