“Ensure Your Place In The Kingdom Banquet!”(Lk.14:16-24).
Here is concern raised yerterday by one of us; and it is probably the concern of many of us. “Having read how Israel was God’s favored Nation, it beats my imagination why Israel as a Nation are Not Christians nor followers of Christ, but for a handful. I know Jewish Religion is what they practiced, WHY ?”
Like we said yesterday, a pampered child runs the risk of being spoiled. That notwithstanding, Jesus gives the answer in the parable of those who were invited to a great banquet. On the day of the banquet they all excused themselves with some flimsy reasons. The parable concludes: “Then the master told his servant, ‘Go out to the roads and country lanes and make them come in, so that my house will be full.I tell you, not one of those men who were invited will get a taste of my banquet.'”
The majority world of Christians are those who brought in from “the roads and country lanes.” Non Jewish Christians are what is said in Mungaka, “tshùñ kweñ mù, bòñ ntshi dzù ñdzàd!” (When the food is not well done, orphans will have full plates).
On the other hand, we forfeit salvation when we run after mundane things. When we tend to be this worldly, we lost interest in the things of God. Paul reminds us to fix our eyes on things above. Our Lord himself says we should seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all others will be added on to us.
The Jews may have rejected Jesus, and are still rejecting him as the Christ, but they probably still have a place in the kingdom on account of the promise God made to the patriarchs. But more importantly on account that we all are saved by grace.
Let us continue to walk the talk that makes us participants in the banquet where we were not initially invited.
Prayer: Father thank you that in Jesus Christ you have found us worthy of the great banquet of your kingdom. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
Rev Babila Fochang.
