“Do Not Set Your Eyes And Heart On Dishonest Gain!”(Jer.22:13-19).
The fate of a people hinges on their leadership. Who and what a leader is has a spill over effect on his/her cronies. At their various levels these cronies imitate their benefactor and even surpass him. If for instance, from a position of authority you ask your treasurer to hand to you an unreceipted 5000000frs from an institution’s fund, the treasurer may withdraw 8000000frs. After all, while drowning you drink some of the water. When water is dirty at its source it may be difficult to fetch clean water downstream.
The wise man of Scripture says, “When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; but when the wicked rule, the people groan”(Prov.29:2). Again, “When the righteous prosper, the city rejoices; when the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy”(Prov.11:10).
What the LORD expect of a leader is to do what is right and just and defend the cause of the poor and needy for all to go well with him. This is what it means to know the LORD.
It is senseless to build a palace by unrighteousness and injustice. Woe betide any leader whose eyes and heart are set on dishonest gain, bloodshed, oppression and distortion! When such a leader dies, he is not worth mourning for.
My friend, one time or the other, each of us is in a position to lead others. Be reminded that you are there to do what is right and just; to defend the cause of the poor and needy.
You are not there to become prosperous through unrighteousness and injustice! Do not set your eyes and heart on dishonest gain, shedding innocent blood and on oppression and distortion. Do what shows that you know the LORD!
Prayer: Holy Spirit guide me to do what is right and just, and to defend the cause of the poor and needy. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
