“Do Not Love With Words, Do Love!”
“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth”(I Jn.3:13-18).
Armed men stormed and disrupted a church service just when the choir was rounding up a heart wrenching song on love. The song was a complement to a soul-searching sermon on sacrificial love. The armed men who had also listened to the sermon through the loud speakers asked who was ready to be killed on behalf of all the others. Nobody indicated. Not even the preacher!
They told the congregation that they will go by alphabetical considerations and kill the first person. Even the pastor whose name was Anthony said his name was Zunthony.
There is always a wide gap between words and action. To tell a hungry brother, “Brother I love yoi” without giving him some of the food reserved in the fridge is not love.
Sacrificial love is what gives us our unique identity as Christians. The Lord Jesus Christ gave us the perfect example of how that kind of love functions. We must learn to love by action and in truth.
My friend, it doesn’t matter who or what you are, each one of us has something we can do to put a smile of someone’s face. Let your love show itself in action and truth, not by mere words.
Prayer: Holy Spirit help me to always be my brother’s keeper. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you !
