“Do Not Be A Jezebel…!”
We experience it daily that big fishes swallow small ones. King Ahab apart from his palace in Samaria also had another residence in Jezreel. Naboth had a vineyard close to the palace. The king wanted it for a vegetable garden. Naboth refused to surrender it because it was family inheritance which had to continue in the generations.
When Naboth refused the king went home angry and sullen. He lay on his bed sulking.
Then came his wicked foreign wife Jezebel and asked, “Is this how you act as king of Israel?…I’ll get you the vineyard of Naboth…” She went ahead and plotted against Naboth and with the complicity of the elders and nobles of Jezreel Naboth was acused falsely and stoned according to Mosaic law. When Naboth was killed Jezebel went and told the king to go and take possession of Naboth’s vineyard. The king did just that. He did not rebuke his wife for such heinous crime, thus indicating that he was in compliance (I Kgs 21:1-16).
The name Jezebel has become a personification for evil. What kind of wife are you? In my culture those who seek the favour of the king often pass through one of the wives. A good wife should advise the husband to desist from hurting people. Unfortunately all around us we know Jezebels who have caused their husbands to make wrong decisions which affect people negatively!
On the other hand, what kind of leader are you? Are you the kind of leader who take decisions based on your bedroom discussion with your wife? Do you always act based on the dictates of your wife even when your decisions and actions are detrimental to the people?
A leader is supposed to protect the interest of the people and not to sieze what belongs to them for selfish interest.
Do not be a big fish that swallows the small fishes! The blood of the innocent will always cry out of the ground for vengeance. And such cries do not go unnoticed by God. God is concerned with the groanings, the laments and tears of the innocent. Watch out that nemesis does not catch up on you! Do not be a Jezebel! Do not be a Ahab!
Prayer of the week: Lord teach me to use my authority to make wise decisions and not to cause pain on others. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working week. Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
