“Do Good And Be Good To The Underprivileged!”
“When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or relatives, or your rich neihbours: If you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous”(Lk.14:12-14).
It would appear the majority of us have failed in this social responsibility. The above categories of people should not be reduced to objects of sympathy. They too have their dignity to uphold.
Giving a banquet for them does not help them in any way. These people didn’t choose their conditions. God has placed a Lazarus at the gate of each rich person to test how the rich would manage the blessings they have received from God.
The privileged ones have a social responsibility towards the underprivileged. This goes beyond inviting then to dinner.
On the other hand, these people are not disabled; the are differently abled and some of them have attained great heights in education, business and social integration.
Instead of inviting them to our banquets, let us rather empower them. Let us teach them how to fish rather than giving them fish regularly.
Dear friend, there is a blessing that awaits you in the resurrection when you do what is right in favour of the underprivileged. Do good and be good to them.
Prayer: Lord make me an instrument of your love towards the underprivileged. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
