“Consecrate Yourself To See God’s Hand At Work!”
Before crossing the Jordan “Joshua told the people, ‘Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.'” He then told the priest to “take up the ark of the covenant and pass on ahead of the people.”
What God was about to do to the people had also to exalt Joshua in public view that God found favour with him just as it had been with Moses. The people were to know that the living God was among them as “the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth” was to go into the Jordan ahead of them(Jos.3:5-11).
The main content of the ark of the covenant – ark of the Lord’s presence – was the two stone tablets on which Moses carved the ten commandments.
What we discern from this rich text is that before the Lord does a great thing for us, we must first consecrate ourselves to him. To consecrate is to make or declare sacred; dedicate formally to a religious purpose. In other words, we must as a group purify ourselves before the Lord goes ahead of us.
Again for God to go ahead of us as the Lord of all the earth, it is the priests to take the lead, carrying the ark of the covenant and taking the first risk with confidence.
I just read a joke that we should stop giving children Bible names without giving them Bible lessons. The joke wonders how Abraham would feel if a child named Abraham was caught stealing. Take Christopher as another example: the nane means, ‘I carry Christ.” Imagine a Christopher who is an antichrist!
If the Lord has to lead us out of our predicaments of any kind then those who carry the ark of the covenant must be truly consecrated by carrying the ten commandments and Jesus Christ in the totality of their beings.
Today some ministers are called upon to reconsider their “ordination – consecration – vows. The truth is that all of us ministers need to reconsider our ordination vows. If not, we will continue to carry the ark, leading the people into their Jordan only for them to drown.
All must be consecrated for the Lord to show us that he is the Lord of the earth. We need an action revival, not lip service! A thief is not only the one who has been caught stealing! Let us confess and repent so as to be consecrated so that the Lord Almighty may show us that he is Lord by leading us across our Jordan without a bridge.
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit lead us in a revival so that the Lord Almighty should restore justice and peace in our land. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
