“Clothe Yourself With The Lord Jesus Christ!”
Today is first Sunday in Advent beginning the four Sundays before Christmas. The selected biblical lessons of Advent asks us to prepare to receive Christ not only as in Christmas but as in his second coming.
The certainty of the second coming should be a motivation for godly living. Hence, as we enter the season of Advent today we are reminded and exhorted: “The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave decently as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immortality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature”(Rom.13:11-14).
For us to wear Jesus Christ like clothes means we should display outwardly the transformation that has already taken place inwardly. Being clothed with the Lord Jesus Christ is to live lives that are a reflection of the Lord Jesus Christ. “He that is in me is bigger than he that is in the world,” should not just be a defense incantation against the devil. Rather, if he is in you, you do not even have to tell the devil because when the devil sees you, he is seeing but the Lord Jesus Christ; so he runs away.
But as it is, saved as we already are through the blood of the Lamb, we are often not able, always to resist the temptations of sinning. That is why we are asked to prepare ourselves before receiving Christ at Christmas.
Sunday prayer: Holy Spirit lead me daily to eschew the works of darkness and to put on the armor of light. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday. Happy Diamond Jubilee celebrations for the Diamond ladies (CWF) of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon (PCC)! Peace be with you!
Rev. Babila Fochang.
