“Cleansed In The Blood Of The Lamb!”(Zec.13:1-2).
“On that day a fountain will be opened to the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and impurity. On that day I will banish the names of the idols from the land, and they will be remembered no more,” declares the LORD Almighty. “I will remove both the prophets and the spirit of impurity from the land”
When the land is awash with idolatry, impurity abounds and sin becomes the new normal. The situation is aggravated when the prophets are the ones encouraging idolatry thus fanning the flames of impurity.
No sooner had the Jews returned from exile, a prophet like Shemaiah was hired by Tobiah and Sanballat to prophesy against Nehemiah and intimidate him to do wrong so that they would give him a bad name and discredit him(Neh.6:10-13).
These deceivers exists even now encouraging idolatry and impurity through prophecies they are hired to dish out. The gullible fall prey and sin increases.
The other day youths with whom we were working in the farm were discussing how a prophet told a man to divorce his wife because the Lord had revealed to him that they were incompatible as a ciuple. And today, after the divorce, the prophet is now married to the woman!
Yesterday I overheard a man telling his friend that if he lay hands on a certain prophet he would squeeze life out of the prophet. His anger was because the prophet has made prophecies that has caused a great rift in a once peaceful extended family. Many of such cases abound where prophecies increases the spirit of impurity.
Our Lord Jesus Christ warned, “Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many…many false prophets will appear and deceive many people…”(Mt. 24:4-5&9).
God’s promise to cleanse the land of sin and impurity is accompanied with the promise to rid the land of the spirit of impurity, idolatry and the prophets who encourage such idolatry that leads to the spirit of impurity!
False prophets exist only where there are people who believe in them. False prophets flourish when many turn away from the faith and betray and hate each other. They exist because the increase of wickedness causes the love of most to grow cold.
My friend, if there is a balm in Gilead to make the wounded whole, then the blood of Jesus Christ is the promised cleansing fountain that washes sin and impurity.
May we as individuals turn away from whatever has been our idol and look up to Christ Jesus. May we block our ears from listening to the false prophecies of “everything is under control,” when we live the realities of “everything is out of control!” God save us!
Prayer of the week: Holy Spirit help me daily to free myself of whatever has become an idol to me; and also from the spirit of impurity. Amen!
