“Chosen To Spread Light That Might Save The World!”(Is. 49:1-6).
There are times when we feel like we were just busybodies with nothing to show for our labours; even when we made ourselves intentionally busy with set goals.
Like Isaiah of old you may have worked hard but realise that it is hopeless, you use up your strength, but accomplish nothing.
Like Isaiah, do not despair; not even when your enemies deride you because you are passing through tough times! Trust the LORD to defend your cause. He will reward you for what you do. With God tough times never last because he equips us with the strength to be tough and the ability to endure.
Israel was in captivity, craving for homeland, yet full of despair. Their captivity was not because Babylon was such a powerful enemy. The LORD simply used Babylon to punish his chosen ones for their disobedience.
In the same way, when the time was ripe to liberate his people, the LORD sent his servant Cyrus to overpower Babylon and set the captives free.
The LORD does not forget his covenant people. Israel was to be freed from captivity and made “a light to the nations so that all the world may be saved.”
In a previous meditation we had intimated that Cyrus was a prototype messiah who was the LORD’s instrument to subdue Babylon.
God chose Israel before birth and appointed him to be his servant, through whom people will praise the Lord.
We have just entered the global “Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. Christians accross the world pray for Christian Unity, first and then for the unity of the whole world; despite our sine qua non diversity!
This initiative of Christians to pray for unity is a fulfilment of God’s Messaiah being the light to the nations and that “…they may all be one…”(Jn. 17:21a).
Dear friend, the LORD knows you by name and has appointed you like anyone else to bring his light to the nations by being a light to your neighbour and your neighbourhood!
Go for the LORD’s assignment with the assurance that he is the source of your strength!
Prayer: LORD, despite my weakness I carry on for you with the confidence that you are the source of my strength. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
