“Choose To Be A Slave To A Good Master!”(Rom.6:15-19).
Someone has said election time is a time when people come together to decide the person who has to suppress and oppress them better. Funny thing some people fight and even die as they contest the right oppressor. If that definition is not true, why is it difficult for the people to vote out the person they voted in if he exaggerates their oppression and suppression? The answer is possibly blowing in the wind!
Is man actually born free before finding himself in chains? Who chains him, and why does he not use his freedom to fight the person who attempts to chain him?
The doctrine of justification by faith alone apart from the law raises the concern whether this will not remove all moral concerns. So, to say, let us sin more so as to enjoy more free grace!
Paul responds by using an example from daily life because of our human limitations.
In Paul’s response, there can be no boasting of absolute freedom because we are either slaves to sin that leads to death or slaves to obedience, leading to righteousness that brings life. Either way, we are slaves.
What makes the difference is not our absolute freedom; it is about who our master is! An example from daily life shows that one master is better than the other.
One master treats the slaves as humans, recognising their dignity and worth, and rewards them commensurately. Meanwhile, a wicked master considers his slaves to be less than humans and treats them as such.
Dear friend, justification by faith apart from works is not the liberty to do as we please. It is the transference of obedience from an evil master to a master who appreciates our worth.
When we were slaves to sin, we used to offer ourselves as slaves to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now let us offer ourselves as slaves to righteousness that leads to holiness.
Prayer: Holy Spirit endear us to remain slaves to obedience, which leads to righteousness. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
