“Cheer Up; Jesus Is Walking The Road Of Despair With You!
After the burial of Jesus, the frustration, confusion and perplexity of his followers was well reflected in the words of the two on their way to Emmaus.
Talking with a seeming stranger, they told him of the recent happenings in Jerusalem and added, “…but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel…”
In all these they didn’t recognise that the stranger they were talking to was Jesus! Jesus stayed the night with them and while they were at table, “He took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognised him, and he disappeared from their sight.”
Worthy of note is that they asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”
They returned to Jerusalem and told the others, “It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon”(Lk.24:13-35).
My friend, each time you are weighed down with pain, sorrow, frustration and rejection, just turn to that stranger who will cause your heart to burn within you as he explains Scriptures to you!
When nobody seems to understand you, look up to the risen Lord who will expound the Scriptures to you as a soothing gel for your soul!
May your road to Emmaus – the road of despair, frustration, and perplexity – be transformed into joy, hope and confidence because Jesus is moving along with you! Treat each stranger with respect because he may be Jesus unbeknown to you!
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ open my eyes of faith to recognise you as I travel the Emmaus road of hopelessness. Amen!
Welcome to a new working week! May the joy of Easter radiate from you and shine the hope to others! Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
