“Bring Your Leprosy To The Lord…!”
The stigma on people living with HIV/AIDS still does not measure up to the stigma that lepers have received for many centuries and in many countries around the world.
The author of the book of kings unwittingly reveals to us the way lepers were/are stigmatized. He tells us that Naaman “was a great man in the sight of his master and highly regarded because through him the Lord had given victory to Aram.” Then he concludes, “He was a valiant soldier, but he had leprosy.”
Even a servant girl in Naaman’s home felt for the master. She knew how stigmatzed he was because of leprosy. This nameless girl’s story may not be pronounced as much as that of Joseph in Egypt, but she too was an Israelite who carried her God to a foreign land. This girl told her mistress, Naaman’s wife, “If only my master would see the prophet who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy.” Naaman told the king who decided to send Naaman to the king Israel with a lettter asking the king of Israel to cure Naaman of his leprosy.
To cure Naaman of his leprosy had suddenly become a diplomatic issue between the kings of two countries. The girl was ignored as only half of her words were considered upon! She told them of a prophet, she did not talk of a king!
She suggested a spiritual solution which the king thought he could solve politically. The king of Aram’s move was a political blunder. The king of Israel felt that his counterpart was “trying to pick a quarrel with” him! In his desperation he too failed to realise that he had God’s prophet in his country, right there in the capital city with him.
When prophet Elisha heard of his King’s predicament, he sent a message to the king, “…Have the man come to me and he will know that there is a prophet in Israel”(II Kgs.5:1-8).
In all the drama, the high-ups failed to see God’s hand in everything. God has a way of humbling us. It was the Lord who gave victory to Aram through Naaman. Even the nameless war captive girl was in God’s plan to bring glory to his name.
My friend, how are you treating that househelp of yours? Are you treating her/him the same way to treat your own children? Don’t be surprised what significant role s/he’ll soon play in your life or the lives of your children!
There are some issues of life that only God can resolve through his messengers. The diplomacy of kings end where the Lord takes over. Let the kings of the world and the commanders of armies know that the Lord wants to heal them through the blood of his Son, Jesus who is the Christ of all humanity!
My friend, bring your leprosy to Christ the King and not to kings!
Prayer of the week: Lord, reveal yourself to me through the least of your subjects. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working week. Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
