“Believe In Jesus Christ Through His Works!”(Jn.5:31-40).
Lots of people love to talk about the story they know best, and that best story is about self. This is reflected in conversations when colleagues of same profession or vocation meet. At such meetings each person tries to outshine the other by telling how s/he has done better in the new station than all the previous colleagues.
Ironically self-praise can never be adequate testimony. Personal testimony of good works is not about what we say about ourselves. Rather the good works should speak on our behalf.
It is not like the testimony of men are not important. They are, but we shouldn’t depend on human testimonies. Most times the testimony of men falls short because humans base their judgments on acts rather than intentions. This is the sense in which Jesus says to those who doubt him,“If I testify about myself, my testimony is not valid… the very work that the Father has given me to finish, and which I am doing, testifies that the Father has sent me. And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning…
Truely so, if it is God who has sent us, only those who know him by faith can appreciate our work, because we have “never heard his voice nor seen his form, nor does his word dwell in” us and that is what causes unbelief in the one whom God has sent.
Have you noticed that the faith of Christians are being destroyed through the misinterpretation of the word of God by those who are supposed to be teachers? Recently somebody posted in a forum “Important things Church members should know.” In the forum a member commented, “This is psychological blackmail!” I agree with that comment because whoever came out with those points is propagating a false gospel and theology. Jesus says, “You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life.”
In my congregation we are presently teaching catechumens in preparation for Baptism/Confirmation. We make them understand that catechital teaching is different from school teaching in that they are not learning so as to write and pass examinations, but rather they learn to know Christ fully and live in obedience to God’s commandments and decrees.
We should testify about Jesus like John the Baptist who “was a lamp that burned and gave light.” Let us make every effort to know Christ as coming from God, and by knowing him, let us come to him for life.
Prayer: Holy Spirit help me in my testimony for Christ to be a lamp that burn to give light to others. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
