“Be Sincere In Love; Hate What Is Evil…!”
When the crocodile is eating someone tears is coming out of its eyes, hence the figurative expression, “Do not shed crocodile’s tears.” A boy killed his parents. When brought before the judge he pleaded guilty but asked the judge to show him mercy because he was an orphan.
We are so lost between and betwixt, such that we do not know again what we Christians profess to be love. I agree to the acronym of love as “Leave, Off, Various, Evils.” LOVE!
The writer to the Romans states, “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; and cling to what is good. Be devoted to one anothet in brotherly love. Honour one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervour, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited”(Rom.12:9-16).
My friend, this for me is a sermon that does not need any further interpretation. It is a call for introspection to see whether you and I live up to this Christian teaching on how we practice love.
A man chose the houses of one side of a street to conduct an interview to know those who were Christians. When he entered the house of a certain bachelor and asked him whether he was a Christian, the man replied, “I cannot give you an answer to your question, but go up and down the street and ask my neighbours. They are the ones who can tell you whether I’m a Christian or not.” Following the story of the good Samaritan who should even be your neighbour? Let sincere love lead and all other virtues will follow. When love leads, evil dissipates, then peace takes over!
Prayer: Holy Spirit walk with me so that I should always hate what is evil and do what is good. Amen!
